AHAFO ANO SOUTH EAST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY
Ahafo Ano South East District has a rich history tied to Ghana's decentralization efforts. The district was originally part of the Ahafo Ano District Council, established in 1988. Later, it was split into Ahafo Ano South District, and then further divided in 2018 to create Ahafo Ano South East District, with Adugyama as its capital. This change was enacted via Legislative Instrument (LI) 2324 on March 15, 2018 .The district is located in the Ashanti Region's northwestern part, covering approximately 545.16 km² (2.2% of Ashanti Region's land area). It shares boundaries with Offinso North District (north), Ahafo Ano South West District (south), Atwima Nwabiagya North District (east), and Tano South Municipal (west). As of 2021, the population was 63,468, with 32,071 males and 31,397 females
Ahafo Ano South East District is located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, West Africa . Specifically, it's in the northwestern part of Ashanti Region. Population: 65,432 (2021 census). Predominantly Akans with diverse ethnic groups engaged in farming and trading.
Ahafo Ano South East District is part of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, with the Okyenhene as its overlord. The district has sub-chiefs who are members of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council. The traditional authority is rooted in a chieftaincy system, where paramount chiefs (Omanhene) and divisional chiefs (Ohene) govern with councils of elders and queen mothers, ensuring checks and balances ¹ ².
